I just wanted to report that I had a great time while in Chile (28Nov - 18 Dec). Everyone in there was very friendly (one local gave me a free guided tour after I arrived, and took me to lunch) I was lucky with the weather in Patagonia so I had great views all the way around the circuit and the group I was with (only 3 others and I got a tent to myself) were very friendly and the guide (Eduardo) excellent. The Atacama stars were all I was hoping for. Some excellent shooting starts and clear nights. Good tours of flamingos, geysers and ancient forts there too.
