Share Kat’s family holiday to Ecuador by Kat Dougal on 4th May, 2018 Advice Family Holidays Kids Travel Advice Travel Planning This week Kat is setting off on her own travel adventure – time to revisit Ecuador, return to old haunts and explore some that are new to her, to get fresh ideas and inspiration. This time, however, she’s taking her family with her to get a perfect first hand experience of an Andean Trails family holiday to Ecuador. Kat says… “Travelling to South America with my husband and two girls (aged 3 and 5) has long been on my mind; I’m keen to share my love for Latin America with them and plant the travel bug as early as possible. I picked Ecuador, as it is the first country I visited 17 years ago and because it’s a perfect place to take your family.” Plaza San Francisco, Quito Why you should travel to Ecuador with your family? Ecuador is a small country (in comparison) and getting around is easy. Distances are manageable with kids in tow and a lot of money invested in its infrastructure has meant a vast improvement of roads. We’ll be exploring the Andes South of Quito by hire car, and will be travelling to Liana Lodge for some soft adventure in the Amazon – hoping to find the perfect self-drive circuit for families. I am excited about returning to Liana Lodge, a great rainforest adventure for my girls – watching monkeys, roaming on jungle walks, visiting an animal rescue centre and exploring the nearby fruit and vegetable plantations will be a brilliant experience for them. And we will be travelling north of Quito, in the footsteps of our popular Ecuador Family Holiday – this time being the tourist myself! I’m looking forward to the Ibarra train ride and staying with the San Clemente community.” Liana Lodge Preparing the kids for their holiday to South America It’s been exciting to get into the holiday mood with both girls – plenty of books , teaching them a few words of Spanish and telling them about all the things we will be doing. Being young, the main question on their mind seems to be “what is a hotel” and “what animals will we see”. Lina (5) tells me she is looking forward to “seeing monkeys and volcanoes”. Mattie (3) is delighted to tell everybody that she is going on a “very loooooooooooong airplane”. I’m not sure that I am looking as forward as she is to that very long airplane, but I know it will be worth it for our first South America adventure together!
