The trip here starts and finishes in Uyuni, but we can arrange for the tour to start and/or finish in Chile’s San Pedro de Atacama if that suits you better.
Starting in Uyuni, we head out into the vast southern desert and enjoy the starkly beautiful landscapes of this dramatic desert wilderness.
The network of salt hotels we use are newly built, of a high standard (3/4 star) and in keeping with the local environment.
The hotels were built in partnership with four local communities, each actively involved in their construction and running, and benefit directly from the income.

Enjoy thermal springs and sleepy Salento before you head into Los Nevados National park for a hike into another world.
Los Nevados is a trekking paradise next to the famous coffee region.
Cloud forests, humming birds and volcanoes – plus the incredible frailejones plants – are your visual tapestry.
Walk to real mountain fincas, welcoming farmhouse type accommodations run by people clinging on to their traditional lifestyles, high in the Los Nevados mountains.
Having seen some incredible people, animals and plants, you fly to the famous Colombian Caribbean coast. Here, enjoy yoga, cold drinks and the pounding waves to relax after the hike.
One final day walk to the indigenous El Pueblito village awaits, then we take in the colourful towns of Santa Marta and Cartagena.
You can transfer out and fly to Bogota, and home, or book more nights in Cartagena, or perhaps fly to San Andres or Providencia for some Caribbean island relaxation.

Add a splash of culture by visiting the fascinating Andean Sistine Chapel and explore the village of Sajama and its picturesque little church when you stay in this remote community.
We have included the options of trekking and camping or alternatively enjoy several day walks, returning to your hotel in the evening.
For intrepid mountain climbers why not add the non-technical volcano climb of Acotango, at just over 6,000 m this is a challenge but achievable by fit and acclimatised explorers. We provide a local guide for this.
Either way you are up close to nature in this remote mountain environment.
We use simple hotel accommodation, but we can tailor this tour to be exclusively camping or hotel accommodation or a mix, whatever you prefer.
The colours of the national park are a beautiful mix of white, greens, yellows and browns and its geysers are set in a peaceful location, surrounded by mountains.
If you camp at one of the beautiful, coloured lagoons, we are most likely to be the only human souls there – bird life is prolific.
You fly in to historic Manta and then explore – see what the local fisherman have caught at sea, head to South America’s only dry tropical forest and investigate the pre-Spanish cultures.
Then travel south to the coastal area of Machalilla, a dry tropical forest with bizarre shaped kapok trees.
Puerto López is a small, charming and somewhat ramshackle fishing town of around 10,000 people which quickly grows on you.
Or try Agua Blanca further inland and hike through the dry forest you reach the humid tropical forest of San Sebastián, great for seeing orchids, birds and monkeys.
More on whale watching
The port of Salango has lazy beach walks, and let’s not forget the humpback whale, a regular visitor to the Ecuadorian coast.
The waters off the province of Manabí, now protected by the national Park of Machalilla, are breeding grounds for this magnificent whale with frequent sightings from June to September.

"Everything went together seamlessly. The accommodations that I had were very nice, clean, and good locations. "Transfers worked great. Argentina worked out fine and found people to hike with. "Chile was perfect as well, but the guide was the one who made the trip. And, of course, Easter Island again was fantastic. "Thank you for all your hard work. It paid off. I am a very happy customer."

"We loved being able to explore on our own but also appreciated the support and security of Andean Trails' local contacts. "We were well looked after, which allowed us to enjoy everything to the max, knowing the logistics were all sorted and organised. "It was a great trip; we were never stressed, the guides were excellent, and it all worked well. "There was fantastic support and planning throughout. The highlights were Iguazu, dancing tango at a milonga in Buenos Aires, the Paine W, and a viewpoint over Chalten from behind the town."
