South America adventure holiday, start planning for 2021

by on 19th June, 2020

South America offers the traveller an unbelievable variety of options. Whether you are seeking adrenaline filled adventure, gentle trekking or in-depth culture, the dream vacation awaits.

The variety of climates, landscapes, wildlife, infrastructure and culture offer a full range of ingredients for us to put together the ideal South America holiday.

On the Andean Trails web site you will find a host of holiday options.

Search by destination or the activity you fancy. Most of our holiday suggestions can be modified to suit your specific interests, needs and wishes. Bespoke tailored trips to South America are our speciality, since 1998.

Bearing in mind that many are dreaming and planning their next trip away Kathy asked the Andean Trails team what holiday they would really like to go on, if they could just up and go, in 2021.

Kat and Colombia

Kat responded: “Travel is always on my mind, so it’s no wonder that while spending time with my family, I am dreaming of my next escape.

When we are travelling again, I would love to return to Colombia. My first trip a few years ago was so wonderful that I have been keen to return ever since.

Cartagena

Amongst other places, I visited the fascinating city of Cartagena and went trekking in Tayrona National Park, which I loved. But I only had a few days to explore Colombia’s famous coffee region and I would love to discover more – its green and verdant hills are just beautiful and there are so many options for day treks and longer hikes. Never mind the coffee!

Tayrona

I really miss good long walks and mountain scenery at the moment, so the thought a 5 day hike in the Cocora Valley, or adding on a few days to trek my way through Los Nevados National Park really appeals.”

Alan and Patagonia

Alan was equally emphatic about his South America adventure holiday: “I’m also dreaming of travel again, in-between my bike rides in and around Edinburgh. I’d love to go back to Patagonia. I would fly into Santiago and stay for a couple of nights, taking this time to get over the jet-lag and catch up with friends.

The next step, a flight to Punta Arenas and the Patagonia Self-guided tour with W trek, but in reverse order.  I would camp in the Torres del Paine as the tents and sleeping bags are provided at each site. The Argentine side is hotel based in nice comfortable tourist class hotels with good day walks from El Chalten.  A step up from camping!

The final element in Patagonia, and spoiling myself,  would be a 2 night stay at the Estancia Cristina Lodge on the shores of Lake Argentino.  It is remote comfort  which is reached by boat from El Calafate. There are people who take day trips but once they have left, the raw beauty and majesty of this part of Patagonia would be all mine….and of the handful of other  guests at the Estancia!

The end of the trip would consist of two nights in the busy Buenos Aires before heading home.

Kathy and Peru

I  would look at going to some parts of Peru that I haven’t been to for a while and I have always wanted to go back.

The north of Peru has amazing pre-Inca sites and a rich cultural heritage.

The bird life and scenery in the north of Peru are also exceptional. I would like to spend some time exploring and trekking there…. if only I had a few months!
