The Best Eco Camps and Lodges in Patagonia

Eco-camp domes in Paine, Chile

Torres del Paine National Park in Chile has new entry rules which mean you can only overnight in the park if you have accommodation already reserved.

Two of the most popular treks are the Paine W and the Paine Circuit which use an Eco-camp as a base.

Dinning dome, Eco camp

The EcoCamp is situated in the very heart of Torres del Paine National Park and provided the region’s first fully sustainable accommodation, complete with green technology. The cosy geodesic domes offer a panoramic view of the majestic Torres del Paine. There are several types to choose from:

Standard Dome, shared bathroom, 10m²/108ft²

Resistant to the strong Patagonian winds, they come equipped with two single beds (doubles on request), cosy fleece blankets and feather quilts. There are windows in the ceiling for stargazing.

Eco camp domes

Superior Dome, heating & private bathroom, 23m²/250ft²

Spacious, queen-size or twin beds with private bathrooms and composting toilets, they also have a propane heater.

Suite Dome, heating & private bathroom, 28m²/300ft²

These domes have comfortable double or twin beds, a wood stove and a private bathroom with a state-of-the-art composting toilet, plus ceiling windows and a private terrace.

Patagonia Camp, Chile

Accommodation at Patagonia Camp is in yurts. Mixing continents, these yurts are perched just outside the entrance to the National Park on the shores of Lake Toro and all come with lake and mountain views.

Twin bedded yurt

Every yurt has central heating, private ensuite bathrooms and terraces and fully kitted to keep you in comfort and warmth, and some have jacuzzis, too.

Each yurt has a circular dome in the centre of the tent which was originally used by Mongolian nomads as a chimney, so you can enjoy dozing off while gazing at the stars of Patagonia.

Patagonia Camp

The 20 yurts are connected by wooden walkways that weave through native Patagonian Coigue, Lenga and Notros forests that surround our site. All yurts feature impressive views of Lake Toro and the famous Cuernos del Paine.

Laguna Condor mountain huts, Chalten, Argentina

Some 20km north of Chalten lie Laguna Condor mountain huts, eight small cabins with private bathrooms designed to reconnect you with nature.

Refugio Laguna Condor

They were designed to be halfway between a campsite and a hotel and the communal areas also offer a fireplace, hot tub and views to Fitz Roy.

There are a variety of walks available from Laguna Condor, which thanks to an innovative hydro turbine which uses a natural stream for its electricity, thereby reducing environmental impact caused by generators.

Futaleufu

Possibly the most luxurious eco camp in Chile is overlooking one of the most beautiful canyons on the Futaleufú River and forms part of our Futaleufu Rafting trip.

This is the perfect place to be pampered and relax after a day on the rapids. Hikes, bikes and more activities are all available from there, too.

Your “home away from home” is a private, spacious safari-style tent bungalow with amazing views of the river. You fall asleep in a comfy bed with soft linens and fluffy comforters to keep you warm as the river lulls you to sleep and into sweet dreams.

Refugio Mountain Lodges, Paine, Chile

Our Patagonia Self-guided trek follows the Paine W trek in Chile and you stay in mountain refugios, comfortable lodges with mixed dorms (up to 8 people ) and shared bathroom facilities.

Refugio Chileno

There are several on the route, and depending on the refugio, you will be provided with full bedding or a sleeping bag. Camping is also possible if the refugios are full.

All have a cafeteria for guests and with limited groceries and souvenirs at tourist prices, communal bathrooms (separated men/women), with cold water sinks and hot water showers, apart from Domos Frances.
